Satellite Irrigation Saves Water
Recently I had a friend send me a newspaper clipping from the Naples News in Florida. The article talked about water conservation through satellite irrigation. With all my knowledge of water saving I was still a little bit unfamiliar with this practice. According to the article they tested a few homes in Florida with this system and it turned out to be great success. Florida is naturally a pretty dry state so irrigation for lawns, etc is heavy used. So how does satellite irrigation exactly work... This is equipment is pretty advanced it actually uses a satellite to track weather patterns, and other weather station data like humidity, wind and cloud conditions for specific sip codes to calculate exactly how much water plants need to replenish their water supply. Making this an easy job for the homeowner, it basically takes all the guess work out of properly watering plants. This system is so effective it can actually cut water usage in half. Seriously if we have the technology we should use it. Just like dual flush
toilets but that is another story....Right.? Not exactly the satellite irrigation systems high costs and installation fees make it a tough buy for most home owners, especially in this market. On a positive note if you afford the upfront costs the system pays for itself within a year. Hopefully one day these irrigation system will be a norm.
